Summary
For the last few years I have been raising chickens for eggs. Last year I added a dozen chickens with two roosters, this year I’ll be raising chickens from egg to egg layer. I’m very pleased the entire chicken enclosure was with wood I milled on my sawmill and the I built the entire place!
How and Why
The why is the simplest question to answer. With the governments wanting to put mRNA into our food, I want no part of it. While having been a city slicker most of my life I did not see how I could raise and slaughter chickens. It has become a natural part of my life now.
I’ll save all the details of how to slaughter chickens humanly to the Youtube channels. Suffice it to say if you want control of what you eat, raising chickens is easy! This year for the first time with the help of the roosters, I am taking fertilized eggs, putting them in an incubator and raising them to eventually replace the older chickens for eggs.
The incubator comes with an LED light under each egg so seeing the chickens progress will be easy! It will also be easy to see any unfertilized egg. This unit holds 9 eggs and in an ideal world I will be able to add about 30 chickens per year to replace the ones that went to the freezer.
I have dual purpose birds so they can be used for eggs for a year or so and then processed into the freezer.
The incubator is really simple and it takes 30 days for the eggs to hatch, so stay tuned the first eggs just went in today, so it will be end of May before I know if it was successful. I will start updating how this is working in the weekly summaries.
Have a great week and learn to expand the food you eat! Know where that food comes from!
