Unfortunately being late with the weekly thoughts is becoming a habit, and I’ll just blame the time of the year! I’ve been very busy now that my tractor is fixed and have been splitting wood, caring for the plants, watching the mushrooms amongst the other tasks. I’ll use this as a summary of those projects.

Growing Plants

Everything is starting to bloom, up until now the salads have been fairly bland but the snow peas and add-ins will soon be here. At this time of year my job is pretty much watering and weeding. Frankly the weeds are winning! So let me share a few pictures of some of the flowers on the plants, nature sure has its beauty.

Mushroom Growing Project

No change here at all. I’m not sure how long it will take before I start seeing anything that looks like mushrooms start growing, but I water the logs everyday and wait. Here is a picture.

Potatoes in a bucket project

As you can see in the image below, the wait is on here as well. The potatoes in the bucket project is going well and the potatoes are growing great!

Tractor back – splitting wood

I went almost three weeks without my tractor and it was hard. It is amazing how much one comes to rely on being able to easily move 1000 lbs. around at ease and will. With the backhoe attachment digging drainage etc. is a breeze. However once it is gone it comes into perspective quickly .

As I’m not digging any holes these days I decided to leave the backhoe off and buy the “trailer attachment” basically the same as you would find on a car or truck but it has the ability to move up and down on a three point connection. I also have a winch that can go on a trailer hitch and be used to pull trees out of the brush for processing etc. So now I can tow my splitter to the wood, put it in a trailer and take it to stack elsewhere! I can pull a tree out of the brush, limb it, use the wood chipper to get rid of the limbs and process the trunk. This makes life so much simpler as most of my property has dead trunks lying around.

Beyond that I pretty much split wood in the morning and hide from the sun in the afternoon. Here a few pictures.

Well that’s all for this week and a half, stay safe everyone!
